After the 2010 Draft

Deals after the 1st Round of NBA Draft:

The Dallas Mavericks have pick up Dominique Jones from Memphis who drafted him with the 25th pick in the NBA draft.
The Mavericks with a $3 million dollar salary cap exception used cash to secure the services Jones from Memphis, who had three first-round picks. Dallas had the 50th overall pick Thursday night.

The Raptors make a deal for 7’1 centre Soloman Alabi from the Dallas Mavericks for a future 2nd round pick. It would appear the Raptors are preparing for life without Chris Bosh as they pick up Ed Davis a left handed power forward just like Chris Bosh.

Scouting report on Alabi is:

Size: 7-1, 250

School: Florida State, Sophomore

Strengths:
• Size that every NBA team covets
• Extrememly long
• Shot blocking
• Alters a lot of shots in the paint
• Effectively uses hook shot
• Above average athleticism for a 7-footer
• Has showed steady improvement in his two years at Florida State
• Great upside

Weakness:

• Offensive game is still very raw

50th pick 2010 acquired from Dallas for future 2nd rounder

• Must work on his mid-range/face-up game
• Looks uncomfortable when the ball is in his hands on the perimeter
• Sometimes over-aggressive as a shot blocker leaving the weak side open

• Needs to get stronger
• Footwork needs to improve on both ends especially defensively when guarding outside the paint

• Will have to become better in pick and roll situations

Summary:

Probably will not be ready to contribute in the NBA right away, but his potential and size will likely get him several late first-round looks.

On the other hand I believe Ed Davis will be ready right away. So the next question is who will be our starting point guard next year?

Possible replacement for Chris Bosh?
