RECENT SIGNINGS IN THE NBA

NBA NEWS

The Toronto Raptors:

Apparentlyhad two trades worked out.  Only one will happen.  First the Raptors may have a deal worked out to send Hedu Turkoglu to Phoenix for Leandro Barbosa and Dwayne Jones.  Leandro Barbosa is a fast, quick bigger guard who can defend and score and could help at the point guard spot.

Secondly, They had a deal in place with the Charlotte Bobcats for Jose Calderon and Reggie Evans leaving for Tyson Chandler.  Further, Dwayne Jones and the trade exception received for the sign and trade of Chris Bosh  would also be sent to Charlotte for Boris Diaw.

This deal never happened.  While Charlotte need a point guard to replace Raymond Felton signing with New York, and they wanted to alieviate themselves of Tyson Chandler’s deal and Boris Diaw became expendable when they signed Tyrus Thomas,   the Dallas Mavericks clearly offered more cap flexibility.

While the deal with Toronto was pending league approval Michael Jordan’s Bobcats decided that Dallas’ offer of Erick Dampier, Matt Carroll and Eduardo Najera made more sense.  The Bobcats can waive Dampiers’ non guaranteed $13.1 million dollar deal, and Najera and Carroll combined make $17 million over the next three years.  Where as Calderon has $30 million left on his deal alone.

This was a weird turn of events as even  Tyson Chandler late Monday night confirmed he was being traded to Toronto.   Leandro Barbosa is a definite upgrade for the Raptors, but Bryan Colangelo’s roster remake is still in progress.

The Raptors worked a sign and trade for Chris Bosh getting back their own 2011 draft pick and Miami’s 2011 lottery protected pick along with a 15 million dollar trade exception.

Cleveland:

In a sign and trade for Lebron James Cleveland gets two first rounders starting in 2013 and continuing through 2017, and the Heat’s 2012 second-round pick from New Orleans and a future second-round pick Miami acquired from Oklahoma City. The Cavs also have the right to swap first-round picks with the Heat in 2012. Cleveland also picked up a trade exception that could be worth up to $16 million.

Miami

Veteran players being linked to the Miami Heat, who may be willingto sign for the league minimum are Zudrunas  Ilgauskas, Jason Williams and Allen Iverson.  Ilgauskas maybe too slow, Iverson, LeBron and Wade make no sense as all three need the ball, but Jason Williams was on the roster when the Heat won in 2006.   Miami has also inked Udonis Haslem to a 5 year 20 million dollar contract.
